Internet slow. Blogging from phone also slow.
Damn ubuntu. Lost several days work. Then spent entire day reinstall bc internet slow. Then another day bc you dont install in ubuntu, you get a list of libraries that you by hard work and mercy of the internet find and install by command lines after reading up on forums how to survive w/o the ones not found. Then possibly you get a .tar, god forbid they give you a .bin, and once you figure what to do with it and all the command line arguments necessary, it still wont work bc you didnt clean out everything and start over that one time you mistyped something.
Why on earth would we give you a program where the whole thing is included and that you can just run?
Did I mention its a text editor Im trying to install?

phoneblogging makes Yeonni lazy ("bc") Also linux was developed for people that enjoy spending a day adjusting desktop resolution!
the most annoying thing ever: it did work but didnt tell me, and hid the executable so i can only start it through the menu, which meant i wasted lots of time trying to fix something already working when there were other things that pretended to work but didnt, so now on the train without internet access i couldnt work either bc the stuff that pretended to work needed... more libraries.
On the other hand, I think there's a certain joy to using Ubuntu, even with all the cock-ups, simply because of the DIY feeling of it. It's kinda like assembling IKEA furniture - sure, it's a damn hassle, but it saves money and there is a certain feeling of accomplishment when you finally fit it together.
True, although it all depends on how much you value the time you waste to gain said DIY feeling. I like your analogy to IKEA tho, now THAT really gives a good feeling when you finish. I always looked at IKEA like LEGO for grownups. Too bad instead of playing with the product you just made, you...sit/sleep in it, or make it useful somehow.
If only they made an OS...hmmm =p
Sure, but I imagine building IKEA isn't quite as fun if you get the boxes ten minutes before the guests who are supposed to sit in them arrives, and 20% of the pieces are missing, on a Sunday. I suppose in part my approach need to change because I assumed I'd be able to install one single program during the course of one day, but then again; One program. One day. When there's stuff to be done and deadlines to make. I applaud the fact that you *can* build lego with it, but don't believe you should be *forced* to as a basic user.
What text editor was it you were trying to put together, just out of curiosity?
